Why is Florastor® a Unique Probiotic?

Florastor® contains the unique active probiotic strain Saccharomyces boulardii lyo CNCM I-745, the friendly yeast found on the skin of lychees and mangosteens (tropical fruits). Most of the other probiotics you’ll find on the market are bacterial probiotics that are either in pill form or in foods such as yogurt. When compared to bacterial probiotics, Florastor® is not susceptible to common antibiotics, and help protect your GI tract when you need it the most.* Visit the About page to find out why Florastor® should be your probiotic of choice.

To ensure you are receiving authentic Florastor product, please ensure any Florastor product purchased on Amazon is sold by Amazon.com or Biocodex USA

Florastor contains lactose, which may contain trace amounts of milk protein. If a patient is allergic to milk protein, Florastor may NOT be appropriate. Florastor stimulates an increase in the body’s natural intestinal production of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose for easier digestion. Of course, caution remains for individuals who are genetically incapable of producing any of the natural digestive enzyme, lactase.

Please consult with your physician if you have any concerns about lactose and using this product.

The World Health Organization defines probiotics as “live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host.” These microorganisms include both bacteria and yeast-based cells, which interact with the body differently.

Florastor is a daily probiotic supplement intended to support the body’s own natural intestinal flora.† Intestinal flora are vulnerable to lifestyle stressors (travel, sleep, diet), antibiotic use, and the occassional nonspecific digestive issues. Florastor helps maintain balance of intestinal flora and promote healthy absorption of essential nutrients and water.† Florastor is also vegetarian and gluten free and is available in capsules, sticks, and sachets.

For our Florastor products, we have recently changed the appearance of our capsules, removing the word “Florastor” and just printing the 250mg on them. For our FlorastorSelect products, we have removed all printing on the capsule. This is to be consistent across all our different Florastor and Florastor Select products. There has been no change to the same great formula!

We do understand that it’s not always possible to keep Florastor in room temperature, and we have data showing the living cells in Florastor products are stable at low temperatures of -25°C or -13°F, and up to high temperatures of 40°C or 104°F. We do not have any data for temperatures outside of this range. We recommend minimizing exposure of Florastor to low & high temperatures to short excursions (less than 2 weeks) and keeping Florastor at room temperature when possible.

FlorastorKids® and FlorastorBaby® contain corn and milk. Our manufacturing process for FlorastorKids® and FlorastorBaby® does not include the risk of exposure or cross-contamination from egg protein, fish, gluten, latex, meat, nuts or shellfish. May contain traces of soy

No, Florastor does not require refrigeration, making it travel-friendly. It is manufactured with a patented lyophilization process, similar to freeze-drying. This allows for storage at room temperature without compromising cell viability.* Do not refrigerate Florastor after opening as this could expose the cells to moisture and compromise its three-year shelf life.

There are several ways to take Florastor:

  • Swallow the capsule whole.
  • Open the capsule or packet and empty the contents onto your tongue. Follow with a 4 oz. drink of water or juice.

Yes, FlorastorBaby®, FlorastorKids®, and the Florastor® capsule contents are unflavored and appropriate for children as young as two months when added to formula, drinks, or solid foods. FlorastorBaby® and FlorastorKids® do contain corn and milk.

The only difference is FlorastorKids® contains maltodextrin (corn) in a sachet format versus a capsule. One Florastor ®capsule and one FlorastorKids® powder sachet contain the same amount of Saccharomyces boulardii lyo CNCM I-745 (250mg).

Florastor, FlorastorKids, FlorastorBaby, FlorastorPre, and FlorastorPlus can be found on the shelf near other digestive health products or behind the pharmacy counter in 18, 20, 30, 50, and 100 count options.

Approximately 30 minutes after ingestion, the Florastor capsule dissolves in the stomach, allowing the yeast cells to help keep your intestinal tract on track.† Florastor can only benefit you during days of use.† Florastor does not colonize the gut, is naturally eliminated, and is undetectable within five days after last consumption.†

Florastor is gluten-free and the vegetarian capsule is derived from pine bark. Florastor does contain lactose, however, because Florastor promotes production of digestive enzymes in healthy individuals, Florastor has been successfully taken by people sensitive to lactose.† Caution remains for individuals genetically incapable of producing the digestive enzyme, lactase. Consult your physician if you have specific concerns about Florastor use.

Yes, because Florastor is a yeast-based probiotic Florastor is not compromised by antibiotics that can kill good and bad bacteria, unlike many bacterial probiotics you’ll find marketed in capsule form or in foods such as yogurt.†

Long-term use of Florastor is not associated with complications. Florastor is no longer present in stools two to five days after discontinuation of treatment.

Please consult your healthcare provider for additional guidance.

Each capsule, stick, and sachet contain 250mg of our unique probiotic strain, Saccharomyces boulardii lyo CNCM I-745. In general, CFUs are a scientifically accepted unit of measure for bacterial probiotics. Bacteria-based probiotics often claim a specific number of CFUs for comparison between other bacterial probiotics.

Unlike the vast majority of bacterial probiotics, Florastor contains a yeast probiotic. The average size of a single probiotic yeast cell is approximately ten times the size of a single probiotic bacterial cell.

Because our probiotic yeast cells are very different from probiotic bacteria cells, Florastor probiotics are not measured in the number of colony forming units; we measure Florastor in milligrams instead.

Each capsule, stick or sachet contains 250 mg of Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745.
